Customer ReviewsRated This is a really late review. This game came out in 2009, and to be honest I forgot I had bought it. The reason for this is the game is utterly forgetable. Nothing new here. This is a 3rd person sandbox shooter that takes place on mars. The major problems I have with the game is how boring it is. I played it heavy for about a week when I got it. Then, I just quit playing it and it's been sitting on a shelf collecting dust unbeaten and unplayed for five or six months. It's not really a bad game, it's just not very good either. It's basically the same game as Mercenaries for the first generation X-box only not as good. Mercenaries was something fresh. It took the premise of the Grand Theft Auto series and put it in a warzone with fully destructable buildings and an array of airstrikes you could call in. It was all about destruction. This game tries to do the same, but when compared to Mercenaries it's just not that good. Mercenaries had three playable characters, this game only has one. There aren't even any cool vehicles to drive. Seriously, you could hijack tanks, jeeps, cars, and even helicopters in Mercenaries. This game has no hijackable flying vehicles. That's not really that big of a deal I guess, but the vehicles in Red Faction are lame. There aren't any mounted guns. Every vehicle weapon is forward mounted for the most part. Thumbs down on that. Yet, it does a few things going for it that Mercs didn't. Firstly, Red Faction has a sledge hammer melee weapon, and it is really cool. It's perhaps the most satisfying part of the game. You can break down walls and stuctures with it, and there isn't anything more fun than smashing some dude into next week like John Henry. Secondly, Red Faction has upgradable weapons. In short, you can upgrade your weapons by collecting credits for completing tasks. This increases the ammount of ammo you can carry, the damage your weapons cause, and unlocks new abilities. Unfortunatly, the weapon upgrades don't really add much to the gameplay. This is because the mission design is poorly done. You basically do a series of four or five style of missions over and over again. Graphically it doesn't look that great either. The game is fun for a snowy or raining weekend, but sadly it fails to measure up when it goes head to head with other sandbox style games. If you simply must play it, I suggest getting it really cheap or just renting it for a few days. You'll thank me later. Rated Not expensive, and alright fun. It can get annoying when you get stuck at parts, and the gameplay is not that deep, but its enjoyable. It's fun to smash up buildings, but this aspect of the game in reality is not that important to the game. Rated This game is very cathartic. That means therapeutic to you kids out there. If you feel like smashing something - whacking a wall with an axe or sledgehammer, this game is perfect. Part of your objective includes destroying your environment - and unlike most games that say they have "destructible environments", this one really delivers. You're on Mars, you're fighting the evil government, you have a sledgehammer. GO. The weapons are cool, the game progress is good, the missions are OK - most of the side missions are just annoying. The real fun is destroying stuff and collecting scrap. And blowing up bad guys. And maybe using a giant robot thing to mess around in. Pretty cool. Rated I played the online beta for this game before it was out and i was impressed.I got the game when it came out and immidiatly started playing. The campaign was great instead of being in some orginized military group ur a terrest fighting for freedom on Mars. The game dosent have the best graphicks but u can blow up everything u see.If u dont beleve me download the demo. the campaign is great.U can hijack any veichle u see. The online multieplayer gets repetetive after a long time but its worth getting the game. Rated I bought this for my daughter for her x-box for x-mas and she has played it everyday. Item was as described and fast shipping. Similar Products
